Cosmetic Acupuncture

What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (FRA) is a safe and effective alternative to Botox and other types of injectable filler. It involves the placement of incredibly fine needles into areas of the face to stimulate the skin and underlying musculature to improve the appearance of the skins tone and texture, helps to smooth the skin by reducing the frequency, depth and severity of wrinkles and fine lines and lifts drooping skin around the eyes and eyelids, whilst also reducing the appearance of blemishes and age spots.

These micro fine acupuncture needles are inserted into specific areas and acupuncture points located upon the face, and the resulting stimulation helps to improve blood circulation and increase the production of collagen within the skin. Regular treatment helps to improve the elasticity of the skin, brighten the complexion, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Cosmetic acupuncture is a great alternative to Botox and dermal fillers with comparable results but without the hefty price tag and potential side effects. It also has the bonus of being incredibly relaxing so is great for mental well-being.

Is Cosmetic Acupuncture a natural alternative to Botox?

Cosmetic acupuncture is the only anti-aging treatment that can both rejuvenate the face and neck areas through the regeneration of collagen production and simultaneously addresses the underlying imbalances in the system that contribute to the aging process.

Botox works by diminishing the facial muscles, which in time can cause long term damage to the musculature, unlike cosmetic acupuncture which provides a far more natural way to care for the skin's health, avoid wrinkles and make the skin look less aged.

Who is cosmetic acupuncture suitable for?

Anyone who is seeking a more natural and holistic approach to health and well being and those looking to avoid the potential side effects of injectable fillers that include the risk paralysing the facial muscles and restriction of lymph and blood flow to the face, both of which facial acupuncture enhances!

How long is a session and a course of Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Sessions last 50 minutes which includes the insertion of the needles and time to relax during the procedure.

A course of Cosmetic Acupuncture is 6-10 weeks, followed by monthly top-up sessions to keep your skin looking at its best, but this can be varied depending on your individual requirements and budget.

How long do the results last?

Following a complete course of treatment and attending monthly follow up sessions you can expect that your results will not diminish. It is important to have regular follow up maintenance sessions.

Are there any side effects?

Most people who undertake treatment report that it is a relatively painless procedure, but it is worth baring in mind that everyone has a differing pain threshold so experiences may vary. The needles used during Cosmetic Acupuncture are incredibly thin, with some so tiny they are inserted using tweezers and are placed at a far shallower depth than during a regular acupuncture treatment.

Side effects are few and far between and very mild. The most common side effect is bruising, some localised, short lived inflammation and redness, and very occasionally the temporary exacerbation of an existing condition, also known as healing crisis whereby the condition temporarily worsens before improving.

Does it help with acne?

There are many underlying reasons why a person may suffer with acne, and by taking a detailed health review (also known as a Full Traditional Diagnosis) we are able to pinpoint the underlying disharmonies and rebalance the system. The location of the acne can tell us many things about why it is occurring, for example acne on the forehead often indicates imbalances within the digestive system, whereas muzzle acne or acne that appears on the chin can suggest a hormonal imbalance may be at the root of the problem.

Is there any scientific proof of the efficacy of Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Yes! There have been several studies conducted to examine the results and efficacy of Cosmetic Acupuncture, one of which can be found here
